THEY CALL ME ALICE AND I'M CURRENTLY TWELVE YEARS OLD. I'M PART OF DISTRICT 6.
-------------------------------------------------
Alice has long, wavy light chestnutty hair that reaches midway down her back. It is very messy, but not tangled. A falling in the eyes all the time way. Her eyebrows are thin and short, while her eyelashes are thick and medium-length. Her nose is small and thin, the bridge a little bit off her face. She has almond shaped eyes, colored in muddy green. They look like a toddler took a crayon and scribbled them in. Her mouth is small like her nose. The lips are pale- pink, and mildly thin. They are cracked from dryness. Usually, it is down in a frown. Her ears are small as well, and look a bit elfish. Her sisters joke about them often. Her skin is light and freckle less.
Alice is short and scrawny, almost resembling a twig. Thus Silver's nickname for her, Twig. Silver is her classmate. She is 4'7" and weighs 69 pounds. Her hands are boney, and a bit ugly in some people's opinions. She hides them behind her back most of the time, and tries to avoid letting people see. She isn't very strong either, and sometimes she thinks she has no muscles. But of course, if she had no muscle, she would be laying on the ground like jell-o.
Alice wears an old, tattered shirt that is a bit big on her. She grew out of her pants, and ended up with her mother's spare skirt, which is actually tied up in the back, so she doesn't trip on the edges or it falls off, but it's hidden under her shirt. She doesn't have any shoes, she goes barefoot. Her hair is usually worn down, except on Reaping day, when she ties it up. On Reaping day, Alice cleans her shirt and puts her arms in front of as many torn parts as she can, and cleans her clothes and face. It's the best she can do, although her mom is thinking about finding her something better for her first Reaping.
Alice is a very fast runner, her stamina is a bit surprising for someone so small and weak looking. She is a good climber, but can't swim. She paddles around then gives up. She's useless at that. Being so small, she is excellent at hiding in nooks and crannies around the District.
Alice is a loner, and feels most comfortable by herself. Being extremely shy, she has trouble bringing herself to ask for help on something. She is very smart though, and does well in school. She prefers to sit in the back of the class, although she listens perfectly well to the teacher’s every word. The problem is, she won’t ask questions. If she has a question, it will bother her until she overhears the answer from someone. Not a very good method, eh? She doesn’t hope about many things, nor trust things will turn out alright. She’s curious, but hangs back to see outcomes. Alice is tolerant of most of her parent's and sistser's hitting her.
Alice is extremely modest, and feels lost if she is given something to eat without doing something to earn it. You wouldn’t think from her quiet nature she has a loud thinking voice, although if you could read her thoughts you would close the book immediately and walk away. She is always thinking about her family, and how separate she is from them. She isn’t jealous of Thistle, or Nina, or even Rowan or anything, she just feels her family is being unjust to her. Not one of her sisters don't hurt her, and both of her parents are drunks.
Alice has a terrible facial tic of twitching her nose. She’ll notice it wiggle a bit, and rub it. When she feels nervous, she’ll bite her lip and start playing with her hair. She doesn’t like being nervous, and often tries to flee the scene as soon as she can. Now, despite being able to handle situations well, Alice often finds a need to apologize, even when an apology isn’t required. It most often happens around her parents and sisters, along with a quick ducking of the head and walking quickly to her hideout. Her hideout is a cardboard box just big enough for her to hunch over inside, sleep in, and feast upon the occasional bread in. Everything she owns is in that upside down box. When it rains she drags the box into the shade. Her family won't even let her come inside the house.
Alice's history isn't the best one, so you can stop reading now if you like. She is the youngest of her sisters. Her sisters are Thistle (27), Nina (23), and Rowan (17). Her parents, Claustra and Reymund were both drunks that beat their children. Once Alice was born, it impacted the fmaily greatly. They had less food than ever to feed themselves, thus causing her parents to target her without paying any attention to her sisters. Since her sisters had lost all attention, they, in turn, beat Alice as well. So there was little six-year-old Alice, crying and pleading for them to stop, when her entire family was hitting her at once. It must've been frusterating, and more than once she stumbled out of the room in a daze.
The peacekeepers never found out, and her parents didn't really care what her sisters did. Passing out from pain became a normal occurence for Alice by the time she turned eight. It was difficult, and being loner she never truly made any friends. The best she could do was sleep on the cold, hard floor of her living room and hope her head wouldn't be stepped on in the mornings. Her parents decided to use her as a servant when they were too hungover to do anything. Eventually, her sisters came to use her as an errand girl, and then to clean up after them, and it would always be as they asked. For if she refused, she'd be responded with a headache.
When Alice turned ten, Thistle knocked out three of her lasting baby teeth, whcih are yet to come back yet. On the same day, she was cut on the arm, tearing her muscle. It is still rather fragile, as it's been two years, but it pained her severely for quite a while. Her teacher was worried about her, but it was quickly covered up by pulling her out of school. Now only her sisters could learn, and her thirst for knowlege could not be satisfied.
A few months ago, Alice found money on the street. She quickly snatched it up and ran to the bakery, buying herself three cookies. She felt like hunger for her would be satisfied, as her family never gave her food, and she had to find it for herself. Well, it was an unfortunate day for her. Nina, her husband Zephr, and Alice's new neice - Tzipporah - happened to be on that street that day. All Nina did was shove frail, starving little Alice backwards and snatch the cookies, giving two to Tzipporah and splitting one with Zephr. That night Alice survived on a handful of peanuts she found on a table.
